The REFRESH project supported Malawian micro, small, and medium conservation enterprises to strengthen their business capacity, improve farming practices, and enhance access to markets, finance, and networks. The goal was to increase the contribution of these enterprises to fisheries conservation around Lake Malawi. By helping entrepreneurs in fishing communities establish scalable and sustainable business models, the project applied the conservation enterprise theory of change to address environmental challenges in key catchment areas.
Equip Consulting was contracted to design, develop, and deliver a tailored Technical Assistance (TA) program. The program provided practical guidance on how entrepreneurship and market-based approaches could be used to drive both economic growth and biodiversity conservation through conservation enterprises.
