Hail & Cotton (H&C) is supporting the establishment of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) as a strategy to enhance financial inclusion among it’s tobacco farming households. These VSLAs are intended to offer farmers—particularly spouses of tobacco farmers—a more flexible and accessible option for credit. Beyond savings and loans, the VSLAs serve as a platform for promoting and supporting income-generating activities(IGAs), thereby contributing to household economic resilience and financial empowerment.
EQUIP was engaged to design and is currently leading the implementation of this initiative. The project includes mobilizing community members, training Hail and Cotton Agronomy Technician and VSLA groups, on VSLA set up, financial literacy and business development to ensure the sustainability and impact of the model.
